A couple of weeks ago, my family and I had the privilege of being photographed by Amaris Montoya of Portraits By Amaris. On a beautiful Sunday morning we went to Amaris’ studio located in Prospect. The studio was quiet and inviting. After suggesting poses and a few different groupings inside we headed outside. There was a large outdoor space where Amaris set up a mini studio for us. Once outside the kids really opened up. Amaris gave them bubbles to play with and literally ran after my children as they chased the bubbles. Everyone was giggling and having a blast. Amaris was able to capture the pure joy that my family brings me in photographic form.
Amaris was professional but friendly. She checked in regularly to make sure we were happy with the way the photo session was going and that every combination we wanted happened. She gave us words of encouragement and helped put us at ease.
As a mom I take loads of pictures of my children. Some even come out exactly as I had hoped they would. But there is just something about professional pictures that makes the beauty, love and true essence of a family stand out. And I definitely see those qualities in the incredibly beautiful photographs taken by Amaris.
Amaris has been a photographer for ten years. She fell in love with photography in high school and continued her interest into college, following her educational pursuits she continued to teach herself all she needed to learn about becoming a photographer. Amaris began her professional photography career with children’s portraits for a national company. After gathering experience through two high volume photography jobs, she realized she wanted to start her own business with a focus on families.
“Each type of portraiture I do has it’s own beauty and appeal. There is something
so incredible about photographing families as they grow and change.”
Portraits By Amaris began with friends and family and then friends of family looking for family photographs, spreading from there into the budding business it is today.
“I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be able to do what I love.”
Amaris’ favorite thing about photography is unscripted photos.
As a mother of two small children it makes her value photography more. She has seen first hand how quickly children grow and change and how important it is to remember every milestone, step and stage along the way.
Amaris understands that each family’s important moments vary. Some families will want maternity photos while others will focus on newborn or family photos.
